MonoTab is a Chrome extension that replaces the default New Tab page with a customizable workspace for shortcuts, Spaces, folders, themes, and local data management.
This Privacy Policy explains what information MonoTab processes, how that information is stored, and the choices available to users.
MonoTab is designed to work without requiring an account.
The extension does not include advertising, analytics, telemetry, or a developer-operated backend service. MonoTab does not automatically transmit your saved shortcuts, folders, settings, bookmarks, or custom backgrounds to the developer.
Most information used by MonoTab is stored locally in your Chrome browser profile.
MonoTab may process the following information when you use its features:
When you create a shortcut or save a website inside a Space, MonoTab stores information such as:
The website name
The website URL
The shortcut order
The folder or Space where the website is stored
This information is used only to display and organize your saved websites.
MonoTab stores the Spaces, folders, subfolders, links, ordering, and expanded-folder state you create inside the extension.
MonoTab requests access to Chrome bookmarks so that it can:
Detect whether bookmarks are available for import
Allow you to import selected Chrome bookmarks into MonoTab
Bookmark access is used only for the import feature. MonoTab does not transmit your bookmarks to the developer.
MonoTab stores preferences including:
Selected theme or color palette
Language
Clock format
Link-opening behavior
Shortcut and folder arrangement
Onboarding and interface preferences
When you choose a local image, animated image, or video as a background, MonoTab stores the selected media locally in the browser using IndexedDB.
The selected background file is not uploaded to a MonoTab server.
MonoTab may also process visual information from the background locally to determine suitable interface contrast. This processing takes place on your device.
MonoTab allows you to:
Export your settings and organized content as a local JSON backup
Import a previously exported JSON backup
Backup files are created or selected by you and remain under your control.
MonoTab uses local browser storage technologies, including:
chrome.storage.local
localStorage
IndexedDB
These technologies are used to store settings, shortcuts, Spaces, folders, links, interface state, and optional custom background media.
The extension does not provide cloud synchronization.
Information stored locally may be removed if you uninstall the extension, clear extension storage, reset your browser profile, or delete the information using available browser or extension controls.
MonoTab does not intentionally collect or transmit:
Your name
Email address
Phone number
Physical address
Account credentials
Payment card or banking information
Health information
Precise location
Personal communications
Browser history
Search history
Analytics events
Advertising identifiers
Device fingerprints
Crash reports
Usage telemetry
MonoTab does not require registration or sign-in.
MonoTab allows you to open websites saved as shortcuts or links.
When you open an external website, that website operates under its own terms and privacy policy. MonoTab is not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of third-party websites.
The extension also includes an optional PayPal support link. PayPal is opened only when you choose to click the support button. Any information you provide to PayPal is governed by PayPal’s own privacy policy.
MonoTab may display website favicons using Chrome’s built-in favicon functionality.
The extension does not use a third-party favicon provider operated by the MonoTab developer.
MonoTab does not sell user data.
MonoTab does not share locally stored user content with advertisers, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties.
Because MonoTab does not operate a backend service, the developer does not receive the shortcuts, folders, bookmarks, settings, backup files, or custom backgrounds stored through the extension.
MonoTab requests the following Chrome permissions:
Used to save your settings, shortcuts, Spaces, folders, links, ordering, and interface preferences locally.
Used to allow you to import existing Chrome bookmarks into MonoTab.
Used to display website icons for your saved shortcuts and links through Chrome’s built-in favicon system.
Used to support larger locally stored data, particularly optional custom image, animated image, or video backgrounds.
MonoTab does not request access to all websites and does not declare broad host permissions.
MonoTab is designed to minimize external data exposure by storing its primary data locally and avoiding analytics or developer-operated cloud services.
However, no browser extension, device, or local storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, Chrome profile, and exported backup files.
MonoTab keeps locally stored information until you:
Delete individual shortcuts, links, folders, or Spaces
Replace or remove a custom background
Import a different backup
Clear the extension’s stored data
Uninstall the extension
Reset or remove the Chrome profile
You should keep exported backup files secure if they contain website URLs or organizational information you consider private.
MonoTab is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because the extension does not require an account and does not operate a developer backend, it does not knowingly receive personal information from users, including children.
MonoTab’s use of information obtained from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed through Chrome permissions is used only to provide and improve the user-facing features described in this policy. It is not used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or unrelated purposes.
Chrome requires extensions that handle user data to maintain an accurate privacy policy explaining how data is collected, used, and shared.
This Privacy Policy may be updated if MonoTab’s functionality or data practices change.
If a future version introduces material changes to how information is processed, the policy will be updated before or alongside the relevant release.
